The Greek word aphros means “foam” and Aphrodite emerged from the white foam of the sea.
Aphrodite was a goddess of sexual love and beauty, and sometimes war. She is really an ancestress to more ancient goddesses. Her oldest name was Aphrodite Mari - Mari means both womb and sea in ancient Sumerian.
With its swirling thick white and sea coloured paint, mixed with splashes of gold powder and pockets of dark red, it depicts the various elements of her power. It is part of my goddess series.

The Bronze Age (2024) reflects the memory and history of women’s forgotten glory at this time. It is a reminder of the civilisations and cultures that celebrated women’s power before Patriarchy took hold. Illustrating bold and fearless feminine energy, it invites the viewer to excavate the past, illuminating a strength and authority that has been hidden for too long. It asks us to remember women’s history, to celebrate the marriage of women and power, and that women remember themselves as formidable forces.
